About

Hi, and welcome again to Alaskan Chef. I am sure you are wondering who could this person be that writing all this fabulous information. Well let me tell you a little about me. My name is Lee, I go by AKchef online and I have lived in Alaska for 10 years now. “What? Not a native born Alaskan?” Well to answer that question, No. I moved here 10 years ago to go fishing, it ended up being less fishing and more processing on these huge ships in the Bering Sea. It was my first taste of Alaska and since I did not have the opportunity to really explore I just decided to stay.

I took a job ashore in Dutch Harbor, of “The Deadliest Catch” fame. There on the island, 800 miles form the mainland, is a hotel called, The Grand Aleutian, this is where I got my first real taste of fresh Alaskan seafood. You see I applied for a job there as a cook and the Executive chef so graciously offered me the job. I mean it is remote so there was not alot of applicants I am sure. That began my cooking career. I had all the freshest seafood available for us to use on a day to day basis. Halibut right from the local fisherman, Copper River salmon from South Central Alaska, King crab from the Bering Sea. I mean it was a cooks delight. With that I learned how to prepare these fantastic ingredients and still use those recipes as well as my own to this day.

I left Dutch Harbor in 2005 and settled into the small little communtiy of Wasilla, which of course has risen to fame thanks to Sarah Palin and family. This is where I raise my family and enjoy my life continuing to share with people all over my love for Alaska and all it has to offer.

If you see something here you like let me know, and if you don’t well I am sorry, hopefully something will catch your eye and you will visit often for all the new and exciting information I put out.

Thanks for coming by, and hope to see you some day in Alaska!

Lee
